For several years now we have been carrying Inkpress branded papers. Over that time I have been impressed with both the quality of the products and their reasonable prices. But what makes Inkpress really impressive is the wide range of papers and surfaces available.
INKPRESS DUO MATTE 80 has become a local favorite. A matte finished fiber paper with ink receptive coating on both sides, this paper is great for photo book creation. We have clients who create pages and layouts at home then bring the results in for binding. This paper feels good as a book page and the matte finish wears very well.
INKPRESS FIBER GLOSS takes me back to when I used to ferrotype my fiber prints in order to get a glossy finish. And like all fiber papers, the inks absorb better than on resin papers creating deep colors.
INKPRESS WARM or COOL TONE RAG 100% cotton rag papers that are acid free and printable on both sides. Choose between the warm or cool white base in order to emphasize your images tonal range.
INKPRESS GLOSSY CANVAS is my new favorite. A canvas that gives back a sheen somewhere between a true glossy finish and a satin. I can’t believe how portraits seem to breathe when they are printed on this substrate! We use glossy canvas in our lab and then stretch it. The results are fantastic. Like all canvas, your printer has to be able to handle the thick 20 mil sheets.
These are just my favorites. Inkpress offers over 24 papers and surfaces. And they offer them from pre-cut 4X6 up to 60″ X 50′ rolls. For the most part Porter’s stocks the more standard pre-cut sizes, but Inkpress will allow special orders – often without a minimum purchase amount.
After selecting a paper type to use, visit the Inkpress website to download the ICC profile for the paper from a list that covers most popular printers. Free. I like this service from Inkpress, it saves me a lot of time color balancing!
If you enjoy printing at home you have to try Inkpress. The quality is superior to most printer-branded papers and equals the highest art papers. To get the most out of this or any paper use good color management techniques as decribed in this blog entry.
If you would just like to sample the papers you can get a variety pack HERE for about six bucks. You get four surfaces each with three sheets.
